My husband bought me earrings for my birthday, but made certain he could return them for a refund if they weren't to my liking. After handing over his VISA, he was handed a receipt that stated refunds were not permitted, only exchanges. In that moment, he didn't know the clerk had lied to him because he doesn't read/speak French. I had to tell him when he gave me the receipt to do the return. We explained to the owner our frustration and disappointment over being lied to, but he said his hands were tied and refused to refund the purchase. We're now stuck with a gift receipt to this store, but I'm tempted to toss it in the garbage rather than do business with these people again.
